Sustainability

At Bam Bam Italian we strive to operate our venue as sustainably as possible. With nature and community surrounding us, we are constantly reminded of the need to look after our home and the people who reside and visit the Dandenong Ranges. Read more about our environmental and social initiatives below.

  • Humans are the heart of Bam Bam Italian. We deeply care about the team we employ and consider them to be our family. We ensure we provide them with a safe, secure, and inspiring place to work. We actively encourage both the personal and professional development of our team members and provide regular training so they can expand their skills within the hospitality industry. We believe in adding to the hospitality workforce rather than simply taking from it. This ensures the hospitality industry’s vibrant future.

We give back to our community regularly by providing donations, sponsorships, facilitating community events, and assisting with fundraising for groups or individuals in need.

  • At Bam Bam Italian, our team changes the menu four times a year, one for each season, and we also create specials menus that accommodate ingredients with short growing seasons. Operating this way requires our team to be flexible, creative, and have an understanding of the importance of seasonal sustainability.

We use local suppliers to support our local economy, and in doing so we reduce the distance our goods travel to get to us. We also accept home-grown food from our loyal customers to special on our menus.

We grow the following produce onsite at Bam Bam Italian – lemons, rosemary, thyme, sage, oregano, bay leaves, tomatoes, and lovage.

We order and prep in bulk where possible to reduce the number of deliveries we require.

  • Our plastic-free sugarcane takeaway containers are made from rapidly renewable sugarcane pulp, a by-product of the sugar refining industry. They are microwave and oven safe. This packaging is certified industrially compostable and carbon neutral, and can be composted in Cardinia Council’s green bins, along with our recycled takeaway pizza boxes.

We use I AM NOT PAPER takeaway coffee cups. Our cups and lids are made from PlantPulp™ which is a material that’s been developed to be forest free, made from reclaimed plant and veggie byproducts that otherwise would be disposed of as waste and it doesn't produce harmful blackwater that can end up in our waterways. There is no sludge full of heavy metals from the additives and chemical printing inks to be sent to the landfill or even end up as harmful emissions in our air if it is incinerated. This packaging can be recycled, composted in Cardinia Council’s green bins, or placed in landfill where it with biodegrade over time.

We use Little Green Panda's sugarcane straws that are the first of their kind and are 100% home compostable. Made from recycled unused sugarcane, which would have otherwise been discarded, and turned into eco-friendly straws that will decompose in food waste bins within a few weeks. The straws are strong (never soggy), PLA-Free (no plastic or compostable plastic), reusable and dishwasher friendly (if need be), FDA Approved, certified home compostable and commercially compostable, gluten-free, and taste-free.

  • Our food waste is composted where possible. It’s collected by dedicated members of our community who compost our organic waste for use in their own gardens.

Our menus are printed on recycled and recyclable paper (we are phasing out the laminating of our menus now that we are post-COVID).

We recycle whatever we can through our waste removal company.

We purchase equipment that will last us the long haul and we repair it whenever we can rather than discarding and replacing.
